Former congresswoman Liz Cheney thinks that former President Donald Trump would try to stay much past the end of his second term if he wins the 2024 election.
During an interview with Savannah Guthrie on the Today Show on Monday, Cheney was questioned about the possibility that, should he win a second term in 2024, Trump might attempt to continue in office past January 20, 2029.
“Do you think Donald Trump would try to serve more than one term in office if he were elected next year?” Guthrie queried. “That he wouldn’t ever quit his job?”
The former congresswoman made no bones about it.
“There’s no doubt about it,” stated Cheney.
“You believe he would aim to hold onto power indefinitely?” Guthrie queried.
Without a doubt, Cheney answered. He’s carried it out once before. Indeed, if you examine his actions leading up to January 6th, you will find that he exerted pressure on the Vice President to disregard valid electoral votes, as well as on state and federal officials, and that he later declined to provide assistance during an attack on the Capitol. He’s already made an attempt to take control.
Guthrie had earlier in the interview asked Cheney to outline the potential consequences of the next election.
Do you believe that this is a vote on whether democracy still exists in our nation? Guthrie queried.
