Parents speak out after daughter assigned to share bed with trans student on school trip: ‘Told to hide it’

Speaking up about the incident, the parents of an 11-year-old girl who was allegedly made to share a bed with a transgender kid during an overnight school trip claim they were not told of the decision.

On Tuesday, Serena and Joe Wailes spoke exclusively with “The Ingraham Angle” about the legal action they are pursuing against Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS), also known as Jeffco, in Colorado. The action stems from allegations that chaperones during their daughter’s June trip advised her to “lie” about her request to switch rooms.

In a press statement dated December 5, the Christian legal group Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), which is defending the family, stated that the Wailes’ daughter had traveled to Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. for an overnight JCPS school-sponsored trip, and that she was expected to share a room with three other girls.

Prior to the trip, the Wailes were informed at many parent meetings that the male and female students would be housed in separate hotel rooms and on different floors, according to the ADF.

The daughter of the Wailes, named as “D.W.” in the news release, stated that she learned that “K.E.M.,” a student she was paired with in a shared room, was transgender—a biological man who identifies as a female—from the student herself.
